Defended Employer on a Sexual Harassment/Wrongful Termination Case
This firm represented a Japanese restaurant chain which was sued by its former employee for sexual harassment and wrongful termination for $500,000. The parties participated in prelitigation mediation with a prominent LA based retired judge who pushed for a settlement at $150,000. Thereafter, we defended the employer, and successfully secured a significantly reduced settlement of $30,000.
Defended Employer from an EEOC Disability Claim
This firm represented a local small business whose former employee filed a claim for disability discrimination with the EEOC. We responded to EEOC’s inquiries and were able to successfully have the case dismissed and closed.
Defended Employer in a Wage and Hour Matter Before the Labor Commissioner
In a case before the Labor Commissioner, a former employee claimed unpaid overtime and failure to provide meal and rest periods. This firm successfully represented the employer asserting that the Japanese company was not obligated to pay the overtime, because the employee failed to report the time worked and the company had no reason to know of the overtime work.

Secures a $14 million Settlement in an 8,700 Member Securities Fraud Class-Action
Takiguchi et. al. v. MRI International, Inc., et. al.
This firm served as lead counsel, representing 8,700 Japanese victims defrauded by a Ponzi scheme orchestrated by defendants. This firm secured settlements with each of the defendants totaling approximately $14 million. The individual principals have since been indicted with the CEO Edwin Fuginaga being sentenced to 50 years in prison in May 2019, and the remaining two principals extradited from Japan and set to face trial in February 2020.
AMCO Insurance Company Ordered to pay $549,829 in a Bad Faith Insurance Case
